Balasore is a place of scenic beauty and a major tourist attraction, also because of its historical monuments, such as various temples in the area. There are a few hill ranges in the region too. It is 212 km north-east of Bhubaneswar by road.
Balasore has been in use from 1989, but unlike Sriharikota, it is not used for launching satellites. The rocket launching site at Balasore is situated in a place named Chandipur. Chandipur is located on the Bay of Bengal. The Interim Test Range in Chandipur, Balasore is responsible for carrying out tests for various missiles such as Agni, Prithvi, Trishul etc.
Remuna: Remuna is 8 km from Balasore. It is famous for khirachora Gopinath Temple.
Panchalingeswar:Ensconced in the verdant environs of Nilagiri, the five lingams at Panchalingeswar, the revered venue for numerous devotees, are bathed by the iridescent and sparkling waters of a perennial stream. Legend has it that these lingams were installed in this beautiful abode by King Banasura himself. Because of the serenity and beauty of its surrounding environs. BHUSHANDESWAR:The place is situated at a distance of 100 Kms.from Balasore the district headquarters.The place is famous for Lord Shiva.The priest
who worship Lord Shiva uses ladder to poor water,Milk etc on the top of the Loard Bhushandeswar.This is unique in India.
CHANDANESWAR & TALSARI :The holy shrine of Lord Chandaneswar is a religious centre not only for the people pf Balasore District but also places adjacent West Bengal.
It is a unique sight to see the devtees flock together in hundreds everyday and in thousands on festive occasion like Chadak mela for Darshan of the
Lord which falls in April every weak.
Chandipur Sea Beach:
The calm beach at Chandipur is surely one among many of the fine beaches of the country, but with a plus there the waters of the Sea recede five Kms.Off shore and proceed rhythmically after a regular interval.
TALASARI BEACH
At a distance of only 3 Kms. from Chandanswar one can find the maiden sandy beach at Talasari pleasantly surrounded by casuarina groves.One can observe with surprise the glistening glory of the beach at sun rise and sun set. A jeep drive along the beach(8 Kms.) from Talasari to Digha (West Bengal) is a rewarding experience. Unique "Subarana Dipa" attracts the nature lovers on the murmuring sound of casuarina .
